about

Why I named the song what I named it...I don't know. I thought I did at the time. It gets written on setlists as "Untitled" or occasionally referred to as "Speck." One of two tracks that I played drums on for the record, and the only song from the album that features no outside musicians. The vocals are very raw, but I think the vibe is there. I was really into Jeff Buckley at the time (still am), and I was feeling inspired to just go for it that night. Some of my favorite guitar sounds from the record! Oh, and there are references to three song titles from other artists within the first verse. If you know what they are, I'm giving you a pat on the back RIGHT NOW!-RM

lyrics

a light in the black
followed by something so real
it's hard to tell if i'm here anymore
or just a fly on a windshield
forsaken speck from a god below
i'm never sure where i'm flying to
oh no

and it's coming on
that feeling
that rains and pours down
and it's coming out
this anger
that makes me dead inside

but something has changed
a difference in the way
my perception leads me
to analyze the truth behind
nothing
it's always something
that takes a hold and won't let go
even when i ask
that i can take control

so i took it all
and walked into the rain
i was waiting for a light to shine my way
i guess i'll keep on waiting...
